Before I became an entrepreneur 8 years ago, I first came to the realisation that I was unemployable. In fact, if I had me as an employee, I would fire myself. My inner rebel didn’t like to feel boxed in working for someone else to get rich and I didn’t like rules.

So I knew that I had to go out and make myself rich, although at the time I had no idea how. This is how my first business started. It was a bricks and mortar fitness business which hit high six figures. I held boot camps across the Gold Coast and was one of the first people to use Facebook advertising in that industry in this area.

Although I learned a lot and became super successful I got bored with it because I realised that while I believe in health, chasing the ideal body and allowing this to be your driver, ends up with unhappiness anyway. So I closed that down.

I had to find something that would light me up as well as being profitable so I asked myself a question.

“What would I do for free?”

This is when Ancient Awakening was born. It brought me back to my love of working with psychedelic medicines and doing the inner work, the metaphysical and mindfulness work, and my studies in Buddhism. Using everything I’d learned in these areas I brought all that back in and ran retreats all over the world in countries where psychedelics are legal (so I wasn’t breaking the law).

The reason it boomed I think is because I loved it so much.

So my advice for entrepreneurs is if you want to have a successful and sustainable business, you must first find your passion. Look for that thing that makes you lose time, that feeds your soul, the thing that you would do even if you weren’t paid a cent to do it.

If you’re just in it for the business you may have more flexibility and range, however this didn’t work for me. I had to do something I loved.
